SWEET: Water Bobble

So I've been struggling lately to keep up with my water intake. Well it's more like I'm feeling dehydrated because I barely drink water so I'm making changes. Either way, a few weeks ago one of my co-workers (who's a super eco and animal friendly person) brought me one of the coolest things ever... A water bottle with a filter already in it! SWEET!

It's BPA free, reusable, made of recycled materials and seriously one of the coolest things that I own. It's making my water drinking efforts a lot easier so thank Goodness that I can save the planet, save some money, and save myself from dehydration at the same time. I've always felt like water should be free so I sometimes refuse to buy bottled water and I hate the taste of tap water so me and my water bobble are best buddies!

They are fairly cheap - $10 for a full bottle or $7 if you just want to replace the colored filter. Great find and eco-friendly!

When I believe...

So about a year and half ago, I stepped into a metro train and for once in my life, I couldn't believe how pleasant it smelled. Of course this was not due to Washington Metro but there was a young lady sitting on the train with a bag of little scented bags. I asked her why she had so many and she told me that she sold them: $5 for the smaller bags and $10 for the larger ones. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm....I just couldn't imagine myself paying $10 for a scented bag but the train smelled so good that I would at least go for a smaller one. I mean, she did have an entire metro car smelling like Passion Fruit!

I hung it in my car and let me tell you - these little suckers can kick. A year and half after my run in with the young lady, my car still gets the "ooooohh your car smells good." I'm surprised because they are only estimated to last a month so I feel like I got my $5 worth.

When I seriously believe in a product, I will go all out to find out how to get loads of it. Unfortunately I lost the young ladies number but I was able to contact the company directly to get more info on buying in bulk. I haven't quite decided if I just want to buy for myself or if I want to buy with the intent to sell.

I'm not a pusher but I honestly believe that these little things will sell themselves. My only other issue is that I'm an accountant and I have a thing against inventory. Decisions - Decisions. So I'm gonna have to work on getting my inventory system down first. Here's a little survey that I created so hopefully I can do a little research before I make my final decision.

Roe vs. Wade

One of our Country's most controversial issues is abortion. Some people may be upset when they read my views but honestly, I am who I am and unfortunately I'm not a full out liberal. Yes I am a democrat as most of my views fall into this category but on this issue I'm a conservative. Shoot me! I respect everyone's decisions to live out their life the way that they see fit and I would never say that you are a bad person for having an abortion, but if given the opportunity to talk to you prior to your decision, I would definitely try to convince you not to.

In regards to abortion, I am Pro-LIFE. Abortion is a method of birth control that should only be used in extreme cases. Meaning that unless the pregnancy will bring harm to the life of the mother, then I do not feel that there is any just reason to have an abortion. I have often waivered my views over abortion being allowed for rape victims but I truly believe that a child conceived from rape can still be a blessing. If not to you, then maybe to a family who has been unable to have children.

The arguments for abortion include amongst others:
Affordability - The woman doesn't feel financially capable of caring for the child
Lack of Responsibility - The parent's do not feel responsible or have been deemed unfit to care for a child
Legality - In the historic case of Roe versus Wade, the US Supreme Court held that a woman may abort her pregnancy for any reason, up until the end of the first trimester.

How I feel about it:
Financial hardship has never been a valid argument in my eyes. If you can gather several hundred dollars together to pay for an abortion, you could have afforded condoms or other contraceptives. You chose to act irresponsibly. If you know that you can't afford a TV, don't go to rent-a-center and start making payments. There isn't a repo man for a baby - Sorry!

Lack of Responsibility is another issue and unfortunately for some people, responsibility isn't ever learned until a circumstance is created in which you are forced to be responsible. Caring for a child is a hard "punishment" but why should a gift from God be destroyed for your personal freedom.

Legality - Just because abortion, amongst other things (and this is totally different conversation) are legal, doesn't mean that I will EVER support it. As a US citizen, I follow the law only up until the point that it conflicts with my personal beliefs and religion.

My Story (Yeah I'm telling a lot)
I was conceived when my Mother was only 15 years old and born after her 16th birthday. My mother was first given the option of abortion and my father also proposed. Neither of these were in my Mother's heart and she chose to bare a child out of wedlock and accept her responsibilities. My grandparent's were blue collar working class, so my mother was forced to suck life up and be responsible. My grandmother wasn't happy about it so there wasn't a baby shower because I wasn't welcome - I was an embarrassment and an additional hardship. I pretty much wasn't welcomed into our family until after I was born because who couldn't fall in love with a happy baby (and I was the cutest kid ever)! My mother finished high school but wasn't able to finish college. She worked to provide for me and made sure that I was educated and she was extremely hard on me when it came to sex education. I dreaded it but I understood that she didn't want the same struggle for me. I took her story seriously. I made a decision to be sexually active at a young age but I also carried myself as a teenager to Planned Parenthood and put myself on birth control. I thank my Mother for the greatest gift that anyone could give - LIFE. I could never support abortion with this being my story. Had my mother been a weaker woman, I wouldn't be here today.

Mario Kart Wii

Mario Kart brings me so much joy. Whether I'm playing by myself, with a friend, on-line against my co-workers, or girls versus guys night - I love it!

Today I realized that I might have given my self Carpal Tunnel because my thumb has been on fire for about two to three days now but I had to get those new characters unlocked. I love looking up cheat codes, playing people on-line,and opening new boards - this has got to be the coolest game ever! I feel like such a big kid. I'm so excited that my co-workers are in to it so I can exchange friend codes with them online and several of my friends play too! I'm actually excited about being snowed in tonight!!! In the words of M. Falletti... "It's the Little things"...Just felt like sharing!

And yes those are Mario Cupcakes (Picture courtesy of Hello Naomi)

Matted Up

The day before yesterday while getting my nails done, I glanced over at the lady sitting next to me and I noticed that her technician was applying Lincoln Park After Dark by OPI. Nothing new except that it was the Matte version. And I thought to myself hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.... that's interesting looking. The Matte polish dries super fast and with an almost chalky but still cool look. Apparently I'm way behind on this trend so I decided to go with Russian Navy just to see what the big deal was. You can either wear the polish out in it's chalky form or have some high gloss applied as a top coat. I personally don't think I'll ever wear the chalky version out but I will admit that it was a cool experience.

Check out this Article at All Lacquered Up that shows several different swatches and gives greater detail on OPI and Orly's matte lines. (I kind of get the feeling that they prefer Orly over OPI - LOL)

Cupcake Review: Red Velvet

Last spring I was fortunate enough to be in the office (instead of my typical client site) on "Cupcake Day." Building management decided to have Cupcakes brought in from Red Velvet Cupcakery! Surprisingly (I'll tell you why in a few), red velvet anything is my favorite and since the Cupcakery named it self after my favorite - they better have some tasty red velvet cupcakes. I'm not a big fan of chocolate and everyone knows that red velvet cake is typically made from chocolate cake with red food coloring. Not being a fan of chocolate (makes me thirty just to look at it or even talk about it but I do enjoy peanut M&Ms) how I came to love Red Velvet took some serious work. My mother makes THE BEST red velvet cake every year at Christmas time and to this day I haven't tasted anything with a Red Velvet tag that is as good as hers (Actually the Red Velvet Cupcake at Cupcakes Actually came close but it's my Mama...I can't give up "The Best" title that easily).

Anywho, I can't deny that it was a quite tasty little treat. Simple and cute with a fat dollop of cream cheese icing. The second best part was that it was FREE (for me at least! Typically their cupcakes are priced at $3.25 a piece - It's a little on the higher end of the DC cupcake market but they were a nice size compared to some other cupcakeries.

Red Velvet currently has 3 cupcakeries - 2 in DC (Penn Quarter and DuPont Circle) and 1 in Tucson, AZ (I guess I'll be passing this along to my God-brother so that he can indulge in their yummies).

Cupcake Review: Curbside Cupcake

So over the last couple of days I have been following a local DC Cupcakery on Wheels via Twitter. Curbside Cupcake is the cutest idea that I've seen in Cupcakes in a while. The concept is simple. They announce where they are going to be and at what times via Twitter and/or Facebook and you can come and get them! Today they were parked near my office in DC and although it was cold, I decided to take the walk (4 cold DC blocks). Between me and my co-workers, we had a Red Velvet, Classic Vanilla, Vanilla Mocha, and Chocolate with a Peppermint on Top and there were no complaints from this crew! At first glance, the cupcakes appeared to be a little skimp on the icing unlike those advertised on their website but the cake was so buttery and moist that it really didn't need any icing. I'd say they were worth the $3 price tag.

After returning to our desks, my co-workers fiance told her that he had seen them advertised on Food Network and in GQ magazine - Go Curbside Cupcakes!
