What's in a Name?

So my mom has been wishing for grandchildren for sometime now. She sees clothes and sends me pictures (so extra), gets upset every time I let a boy go (I'm just not ready), and even came up with her "grandmother" name (Honey). The name is actually very fitting as it matches my mother's sweet and sassy personality and complexion.

So I've been referring to her as Honey so that I'm in the habit when a magical baby actually comes. My mother loves to talk and share which is no surprise as to how I became to be this way. She's a beauty queen so she swaps clothing, makeup, and beauty product ideas with me and her friends. Of course she shares her spiritual beliefs, hopes, dreams, and even told everyone about her "Honey" idea and her "Honeybabies."

But when she heard one of her close friend's granddaughter call her friend "Honey," I think she was hurt. She won't admit it but some things just aren't meant to be shared. It's different especially you didn't originate the idea or even mention that you were planning to use it. It's stealing. Granted it's intangible and it's just a name but it meant something for my mother. They say that imitation is one of the greatest forms of flattery but is it really? No it's not. It's stealing.

Granted we all share things amongst our friends but be you and let your friends be them. Especially if you take ideas as if they are your own to seem original and don't have the courtesy to let the person know that you are "borrowing" without proper credit. MY Honey will be the greatest Honey of all time!
